How to Use ChatGPT to Market Your Small Business in Kenya (10 Copy-and-Paste Prompts)
ChatGPT can draft your WhatsApp messages, ad copy and content calendar in minutes, but only if you tell it who your customers are. The ten prompts below work for most Kenyan businesses. Replace the words in [brackets] with your own details, then edit the result so it sounds like you.
The one rule: give it context
A vague request gets a vague answer. Start every conversation with a short description of your business, and the answers improve straight away:
Paste that first, then add the prompts below one at a time.
Ten prompts to copy
1. A WhatsApp offer message
Short messages get read. Ask for three versions and keep the one that sounds most like you.
2. Facebook or Instagram ad copy
Test two versions with a small budget and keep the one that brings more messages.
3. Product descriptions for your catalogue
The last sentence matters: AI tools sometimes add features that do not exist.
4. A 30-day content calendar
Replace the generic ideas with your real photos and stories before you post.
5. Replies to common customer questions
Never paste a real customer's name, phone number or ID into an AI tool.
6. Your Google Business Profile description
Read it aloud. If it sounds like an advert from a textbook, rewrite the first line yourself.
7. A picture of your ideal customer
Treat the output as a starting guess and check it against the people who really buy from you.
8. A follow-up for a customer who went quiet
One gentle follow-up wins sales that would otherwise be lost.
9. A 30-second video script
Film it on your phone in natural light. Plain and real beats polished.
10. Improve your own writing
This is often the best use of all, because the facts stay yours.
Swahili and Sheng
ChatGPT can write in Swahili, and you can ask for a mix such as "simple Swahili with a few common English words". Ask a native speaker you trust to read the text before you post, because tone and slang can sound wrong or outdated.
What not to do
- Do not paste customers' personal details such as names, phone numbers, ID numbers or payment records into any AI tool. Kenyan law protects personal data, so keep it out.
- Do not trust invented facts. Check prices, dates, statistics and claims about your products every time.
- Do not post the first draft. Add your own photos, stories and local details so it does not read like everyone else's.
- Do not copy a competitor's text. Ask for ideas in your own words instead.
A 30-minute weekly routine
- Ask for 5 post ideas based on your offers this week.
- Pick three, and ask for a draft of each.
- Edit them and add your own photos or video.
- Schedule them, and save the best-performing wording for next time.
Other assistants such as Google's Gemini work in the same way, so the prompts above carry over.
